Speak Out About Tobacco Control
Eventually, there will be effective tobacco control passed at the state
level, including repeal of preemption, but when that happens
depends on the public . Remain informed, and let the governor and
state lawmakers know that you support responsible public health measures
and repeal of preemption.
Here are some specific ways you can let your public officials know that
you support tobacco control and want them to work for you and for better
public health and not for the tobacco companies.
- You can always write a good old fashioned letter! If you're not sure who represents
you in the state legislature, you can find out at Project
VoteSmart. This map
will show you who represents you on the Pittsburgh City Council.
- Write a letter through the Sign
the Smoke Free Action Network. They make it easy and track
the letters sent. If you only send one letter, send one to Governor
Rendell urging him to enact smoke free a workplace law, including
repeal of preemption. You can also send letters to Senators
Santorum and Spectre and to some national media organizations.
